Energy in Ecology How is energy transferred?. Energy  All ecosystems must transfer energy.  Energy flows in ONE DIRECTION  Heat Energy (Sun)  changes.
Decomposers are organisms that eat dead or decaying organisms. They carry out the natural process of decomposition. Fungi is the primary and most common.

Homework 3-D Models of Biological Energy Flow 8th Grade Homework Assignment – Biological Energy – Due MONDAY Oct 13 Your quest is to create a 3-D model of a food chain, a food web, or a food pyramid. This model must show at least 4 levels for a pyramid, 5 links for a food chain, or 8 organisms for a food web. Organisms must be labeled as producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer, decomposer, etc. The model must show how much energy is lost/transferred at each step. (For chains and webs, include the sun as the initial source of energy.) Scoring: 10 points the model is visually interesting and 3-Dimensional 10 points the model shows the correct number of levels, links, or organisms 10 points the model has each organism labeled with the correct designation 10 points the model shows creativity and good workmanship Total possible: 40 points See the blog for examples

Food Pyramids How many more levels would this pyramid need? What is missing? If the trees receive 100 units of energy from the sun, how much does the lion receive?

Food Webs Would this qualify in the number of organisms? What do the Roman numerals mean? What is the initial source of energy? What label is missing?

Food Chains What is the source of energy in both of these food chains? What do you think phytoplankton are? What label is missing?
