What books will we be reading?

We are really looking forward to teaching Year 5 this year and we have some very engaging and exciting topics that we will be exploring, including: Were the Tudors Terrific or Terrible? Why is South America so Special? Were the Vikings really Vicious and the Anglo Saxons really Smashing? In science we will also have the opportunity to investigate topics such as: Forces Space Animals including humans Living things and their habitats Properties of changing materials

Shakespeare Production As part of our Tudors topic, year 5 will be studying the work of Shakespeare. This learning includes a drama performance with Shakespeare School Foundation, which is a company that works with schools to develop a love of performance. Children who auditions and have a main part have all received their initial letter about the festival and their script to start learning their lines. Being part of this play will include dinner time and after school rehearsals Not every child is acting but they can all get involved in different ways – props, lighting, music, clothing, advising and directing alongside the teachers! Workshop – 28th Sept 1-4PM Rehearsal and performance day – 14th November evening. We are sharing the evening with a high school and a college group so be prepared to feel proud of your children! Tickets are on sale now – given a letter

They could be fiction or non-fiction. Take a picture for our reading corner!

What trips and visitors will the children be having? Jodrell Bank 6th & 7th November Life in the rainforest workshop 7th January Viking Experience 23th & 24th April

How can you help you child? One of the best ways to help your child with their learning is to read with your child every night different types of books and texts. Help your child practise their weekly spellings. Children in year 5 need to know all their timetables and related facts to 12 x 12. Sitting with your children each week to complete their homework is also a great way to help your child. Attending our ‘Sharing Our Success’ afternoons will help to keep you up to date with what your child is learning. Attending parent evenings is a great way to get a personalised and more detailed update of your child’s learning and progress.

How you can contact the teachers? Year 5 class teachers will be available to speak to you before and after school We will also be available to speak to you on ‘Sharing our Success Days’ and Parent’s Evening

Any questions?
