Welcome Information Sheet YEAR FOUR School year 2018-19 Meet the team Miss Bradley Mrs Hewitt: Teaching on a Wednesday. Mrs Sheppard: LSA Monday – Friday mornings. WOW opportunities The Year Four Crew will be Historians in terms 1 and 2 and are going to become archaeologists for a day looking at artefacts from different periods of history. In week 6, we are going to Caerleon, in Wales which is where the Roman army based itself and is a site of huge historical interest. It is a fantastic trip. Please ask your child about this! Home learning and spellings We will be offering a ‘take away’ menu for home learning in Year Four. This will contain a range of tasks from different areas of the curriculum and will support our learning in school. The expectation is that children will choose one task every 2 weeks as a minimum but it would be most beneficial for them to do one task every week of the term. These tasks are designed for children to be able to tackle them independently but at times they may need your help. In addition to this, we will give out a weekly spelling list which children are expected to practise in their own time. They will be tested on these each week on a Tuesday. Using the list of spellings given out each week please select an appropriate challenge. Challenge 1: choose 5 spellings to learn. Challenge 2: learn all 10 spellings. Challenge 3: learn all 10 spellings. Can you also find and learn 3 additional spellings which have the same spelling rule as the other 10 words you have learnt? Helping your child at home Please encourage your child to read regularly and try to hear them read at least three times per week. It is important that children read a wide variety of texts that include fiction, magazines, news, recipes, comics and so on. Children in Year Four are expected to know their times tables up to 12x12 by the end of this year so practising these at home as well as in school is vital. In class we will be doing the KIRF challenge – please ask your child about this. Practising number facts can be done through songs, chanting or online activities. What do I need and when? Reading books and home partnership books– every day. Full PE kit in school every day for PE lessons. Water bottle, clearly labelled. Jumpers and coats especially during the Autumn and Winter terms.
