How is non-verbal communication explained?

Darwin’s Evolutionary Theory of Non-Verbal Communication For a species to evolve, organisms must survive and reproduce Genes that make an organism more likely to survive and reproduce are more likely to be passed on to the next generation Adaptive organisms are more likely to survive and reproduce

Darwin’s Evolutionary Theory of Non-Verbal Communication Serviceable habit (Initial physiological function that would increase the chance of survival) Serviceable associated habit (evolved communication function) Darwin’s Evolutionary Theory of Non-Verbal Communication

What was the original physiological function of these behaviors What was the original physiological function of these behaviors? What communication function do they now serve?

Darwin also said some non- verbal behaviour is a result of our nervous system, e.g. adrenaline causes pupils to dilate making us look frightened, or blushing, or tap our feet when agitated

Is Non-Verbal Behaviour Learned or Innate?

Argument: Non-Verbal Behaviour is Innate

Argument: Non-Verbal Behaviour is Learned

Evaluate Darwin’s Evolutionary Theory of Non-Verbal Communication: Supporting Evidence Opposing Evidence Different Theories Application to Real Life
