God’s Gifts of Love and Mercy Welcome!

God’s Gifts of Love and Mercy Second Week of Lent: Covenant Bedouin hospitality in the Sinai desert

Reader We gather in the name of the Father All Who has established covenants of love from generation to generation.

Reader We gather in the name of the Son All Who lived in the graces of the ancient covenants and who established a new and eternal covenant through his sacrifice on the cross.

Reader We gather in the name of the Holy Spirit All Whose light shone through Jesus on the mountaintop revealing the glory of God to his disciples and to the world.

Reader We gather… All (making the Sign of the Cross) in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

To ponder… When have you reacted to God’s goodness by complaining more about what you don’t have than being grateful for what you do have?

To reflect on… How do you think Abram felt as he looked at the stars and heard God’s promise? What sort of thing do you do to show your willingness to trust and obey God?

Sharing reflections What is the difference between a covenant and a legal contract or agreement? If God is making a covenant of love and mercy with us – what might he look for from us – as a community (part of God’s People) and as individuals? If we are in a covenant of love and mercy with God, what responsibilities does this give us towards each other – and to others?

Reflection Spend a few moments in personal reflection on How might I let God’s love and mercy shine on me this week? How might I let them shine through me on someone who needs to experience them both?

Action Point for the Week Continue with your gratitude diary but this week note down when you have felt blessed. You can also include times when you have shown love and mercy towards others. This is not pride! It is acknowledging the power of God at work in your life and so is something to be thankful for the privilege of sharing.

A. I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, for ever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. I declare that your steadfast love is established for ever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

B. You said, ‘I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to my servant David: “I will establish your descendants for ever, and build your throne for all generations.” but you, O Lord, are on high for ever.

A. Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, a God feared in the council of the holy ones, great and awesome above all that are around him?

B. O Lord God of hosts, who is as mighty as you, O Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds you. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.

A. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit B. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. All Amen.
