‘A Good Name’ Prov 22:1

1. Introduction

“a good name is to be chosen rather than great riches…” Proverbs 22:1

2. Bad name can bring ruin

3. A good name is precious

4. A good name endures

5. It brings loving favour

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

‘And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favour with God and men.’ Lk 2:52

‘They broke bread in their homes and eat together with glad and sincere hearts praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people’. Acts 2:46

6. A good name honours God

‘I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws’ Ex 36:26-27

‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone’. Ex 36:26-27

7. It’s not too late

A Father’s good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
