Literacy activity: Acronyms

Acronyms The next slide contains a definition and examples of acronyms. Following that, the slide includes 10 commonly misspelt words. See who can come up with the most inventive acronym. The words can then be used in a spelling test in the following literacy session.

Acronyms An acronym is a word formed from the initial parts in a phrase or other words. An example is scuba, which stands for self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. Sometimes the acronym can be the start of words, such as the Benelux countries - Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.  They can help with spellings, such as because – big elephants can’t always use small exits.

Invent your own acronyms for the following words. Be creative! until alkali separate necessary rhombus interesting believe beginning definite argument
