TAIWAN – A wonderful place to live but suffering from various natural hazards Severe living challenges: Taiwan suffers frequent natural disasters, high environmental vulnerability, shortage of natural resources, and heavy pollution loading. Highest disaster risk in the world: 73% of land area and population in Taiwan face the threat of three or more natural disasters annually. Frequent extreme climate conditions: e.g., Typhoon Morakot claimed a national loss > 10% of Taiwan’s annual budget. 2

TAIWAN - A good participant/partner to collaborate in your future FP7 projects Advanced research on disaster prevention and land management For example: Debris flow, quake lakes optical monitoring, early warning systems and rainfall patterns Watershed and flooding potential simulation and prediction “Climatic Signature of Incised River Meanders” published on Science Taiwan has many experienced researchers and quality performance of research on the Natural Hazards topic. Please contact us if you are interested in seeking a partner from Taiwan.
