Places in Israel with Historic Backgrounds

The Sea of Galilee The Sea is known by many names and is referred to by Israelis as the “Kinneret,” which is hebrew for “violin,” considered to be the shape resembled by the lake. The Sea has become a pilgrimage site for many Christians and it is believed to be where Jesus walked on water. The Sea is located in northeastern Israel, near the borders with Jordan and Syria.

In 1910, the name was changed to Tel Aviv, meaning “hill of spring.” Tel Aviv is the first all-Jewish §city in modern times. The city was originally named Ahuzat Bayit and it was founded by 60 families in 1909 as a Jewish neighbourhood near Jaffa. In 1910, the name was changed to Tel Aviv, meaning “hill of spring.” The beautiful City is Israel’s second largest City. The city is the center of the economy, culture and the media of Israel. the city hosts the largest Gay Pride parade in Asia and the Middle East. In June 2015, 180,000 people came out to celebrate, 30,000 of whom were tourists.

Jerusalem was founded in 3000 BC. Jerusalem is mostly important to Christianity because that is where Jesus Christ was brought to occasionally as a child, preached to the poor in his adult life, crucified in the end of his life, and resurrected by God. An interesting fact about Jerusalem is that the city has been attacked 52 times, captured and recaptured 44 times, besieged 23 times and destroyed twice over the course of 3,000 years!
