Presentation transcript:

A Cornelius knew he was about to talk to a man of God and invites everyone he knows to the party

B What bothered Peter was that Cornelius “worshipped” him, so he told him to stop and “stand up” because he was just “a man” like himself.

Exo 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Mat 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

C Fasting shows the Lord how serious you are about your need that you are beseeching him to fulfill or your desire to serve Him.

Isaiah 66:2 says, “…to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”

D While God is “no respecter of persons”, He is a respecter of nations, and the nation of Israel was a “chosen” nation.

Psa 135:4 For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

Peter then rehearses some of the same things which he has already told the Jews in previous chapters about John’s baptism (v.37), Christ’s ministry (38), His crucifixion (39), His resurrection and the witness of that by the Apostles (40-41), and His commission to the Apostles to tell the world about Jesus being “the Judge of quick and dead” (42), whom the prophets of old had prophesied, “that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins: (43).

E This is not a reference to world peace, but the “peace” that comes through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as seen in Romans 5:1, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

John 12:46-48, “…if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”

F The quick is those that are alive and will be at Judgment Seat of Christ while the dead are those that will be at the Great White Throne Judgment.

G Notice that when Peter presented the plan of salvation to these Gentiles, he made no reference about their sins being “blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come,” as he had done to the Jews in Acts 3:19. Gentile conversion was solely dependent upon them “believing” in Christ, which Paul said in Acts 20:21 required “repentance towards God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”

H It is interesting to note that when Peter recounted Cornelius’ conversion in Acts 11:15, he said, “the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning,” which was a reference to the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. That being the case, we can safely assume that no Gentile needs be baptized according to Acts 2:38, because the Apostles sure weren’t.

I Notice that once again as people are speaking in tongues there are Jews present

J Note also that there is no interpreter present, nor is one needed. They were only needed in an assembly where more than one nation was represented and verification was needed for unbelievers

1Co 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 1Co 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

  K. Peter now knew without a doubt what the meaning of his vision was - Gentiles were to be included in the “church” that Jesus said He would build to which He gave Peter the “keys” (Matthew 16:18-19). Their water baptism was now an act of obedience to show that they had already been put into the Church.
