Wiltshire CIL User led organisation run by and for disabled people* covering the whole of Wiltshire Contracted by Wilts Council since 2012 to provide Direct Payment support service *Includes mental health issues, learning disability, physical and sensory issues, Long Term Conditions Inc. frailty through old age

What do we want to change? For disabled people: To have a LIFE and not just a service To be able to play a full and active role in their communities For communities: To make the best of their strengths To be given the skills, knowledge and understanding to help them include all their members

What people WANT What people DON’T WANT To be independent To feel part of their community, and able to give back To have all the things that non-disabled people take for granted; a job, relationships, be able to take risks What people DON’T WANT To be a passive recipient of care To be shipped off to specialist services e.g. day services To be seen as a list of ‘needs’, or a problem that needs to be solved

The Real World Service Land

What's the aim? People identify what enables them to live a good life. People are involved in the design, implementation and evaluation of services which are there to support people to live this life

“nothing about us without us” Co-production “nothing about us without us” Co-production is an equal relationship between people who use services and the people responsible for services. They work together, from design to delivery, sharing strategic decision making about policies as well as decisions about the best way to deliver services.

Analyse- What have we got now? Plan – What do we want? What are we going to do, who will do what, and by when? Do – We do it Review – How is it going? What do we need to change? Feedback from both sides within time frame

From ‘why haven’t they done that?’ to ‘why can’t we do this?’ Create a new vision for our community The essential elements that make up a good life cannot be controlled or owned by the state. Sen 1999 economist, Pippa Murray 2010

Help us find the best ways to support you Why? Because only you know what a Good Life looks like for you Help us make positive meaningful changes in the community
