Our Targets for Today I can evaluate student work and provide descriptive feedback using the informational/explanatory rubric. I can use the “Jurying Tool” to identify characteristics of “Good to Go” modules and to evaluate LDC teaching tasks and modules. I can understand the expectations and my responsibilities as a member of the 2012-13 ELA Teacher Leader Network. I can identify instructional practices that are rigorous and congruent with KCAS. I can set personal goals to advance the vision of 21st Century Learning. Linda

Annotating Text Unlike "highlighting," which is a passive activity, the process of annotating text helps you to stay focused and involved with your text. Underline important terms. Circle definitions and meanings. Write key words and definitions in the margin. Signal where important information can be found with key words or symbols in the margin. Write short summaries in the margin at the end of sub-units. Write the questions in the margin next to the section where the answer is found. Time to “Jury” Work in pairs at table, using your Information/Explanatory Modules. First, use “Jurying” Tool to score your own and your partner’s teaching task and module. Then, pass the pair’s modules to the right until all are scored. Next, as a table, have discussion to sort modules into “Good to Go”, “Needs Minor Revisions”, “Needs Major Revisions”. Teach Like a Champion! Choose a partner. Draw a chapter. In pairs, choose one of the Techniques from the chapter you drew. Read the short summary from The Main Idea handout and the section on the technique in the book, Teach Like a Champion. Use Technique 13, Name the Steps, to explain the technique you researched. for September 25th Over the course of the four meetings, each network participant will share one lesson/instructional idea/resource (in print form) that is congruent to KCAS grade level standard(s) (Must provide 35 copies). Be sure to note the KCAS standard(s). Today you will sign up for which meeting day you want to share your instructional resource. Bring your materials to work on your next LDC module (computer if you will be using Module Creator).

Impact Logs Very important that your work is documented and submitted to KDE… Complete a log for any work you have done in your district. This includes, but is not limited to, meetings attended/participated, trainings and informational sessions conducted, etc.  In other words, anything you do that is related to the work of the network initiative. (If you don’t have documentation of specific dates, just include the month)   The documentation log asks very specific questions and some of them will NOT pertain to every activity you have done and/or will do in the future.  The point is that you work is documented!  Logs should be submitted to me by the end of each month. Electronic version is available on Bb. Logs should be submitted to Carole Mullins in hard copy or via e-mail at the end of each month.

Remember… Turn in your evaluations and Impact Logs before you leave! Our next meeting is September 25, 2012 EVALUATIONS!!!!!!! Impact Logs Certificate Have A Great
