12/2/2014 BB: Culture/Thanksgiving Day Welcome Back Think back to your celebration of Thanksgiving. Were there foods that you had to have for it to be Thanksgiving? What were they? Pick one of the foods that was especially important to you and describe it. What would happen if it was prepared differently than what you were use to?

Cultural Artifacts: Geography of a Coke Can Part I: Observation: Look at each coke can and write down its characteristics ( color, size, shape etc.)     Read the information on the can and add to the list.    What are the spatial and ecological implications of a can of Coke? Or, by looking at this can, what can inferences can you make about the societies relationship with their space around them and impact on the environment?  What other perspectives(viewpoints) might you apply to expand the meanings of the Coke can? Part 2: Drawing Inferences: What can be deduced about culture from the observations? Issues to consider should include symbols, cultural diffusion, behavior changes, status, technological achievement, production and distribution infrastructures, food and drink preferences, attitudes, beliefs, political and social relationships – and any other aspects of culture and its spread that can be identified. (please answer on other side of the paper)

White boards What comes to mind when I say Folk Culture? What comes to mind when I say Popular Culture or Pop Culture?

DOL: Using either your coke can or Thanksgiving list three examples of material and three examples of non material culture.
