What is STEM? STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is now emphasized in schools nationwide STEM started because: Only 16% of American high school seniors are proficient in mathematics and interested in a STEM field career (2013 Dept. of Education) The U.S. is falling behind in STEM fields, ranking 25th in math and 17th in science among industrialized nations (2013 Dept. of Education) STEM helps keep America competitive and offers a brighter future to millions of students

What is FIRST Robotics FIRST Robotics was founded in 1989. It stands for: “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Today, there are over 3,000 FIRST Robotics teams nationwide Robotics teams are all about hands-on technical education and teamwork Robotics teams compete regionally and nationally Robotics competitions are high energy events – much like varsity football or basketball games – that attract hundreds of spectators and supporters. We’re called “The Varsity Sport for the Mind” Robotics teams need to raise A LOT of money – about $20,000 annually. Most of this money comes from sponsorships and grants.
