Insights -- Hospitals to Homecare .. The right place at the right time Dr Charles Alessi Chief Clinical Officer, HIMSS @CharlesAlessi

The right place at the right time Hospitals are the right place to get specialized treatment and specialized consistent monitoring – a place of safety and care But…………. What was right for 1990 is not necessarily totally applicable in 2020 @CharlesAlessi

What’s changed in hospitals over the past 30 years ? 1990 2020 Evidence based care Care revolves around the clinicians Care delivered by specialized health teams Application of real world data Care revolves around the patient Care delivered by health and care teams – value of non health determinants @CharlesAlessi

Other drivers of change Cost – financial pressure on health and care systems Convenience – for the person as well as the clinician Metrics – from activity to non-biomedical outcomes Prevention – from aspiration to realization

Enablers Technology can take the best of monitoring and translocate this into people’s homes Built in governance means this could become mainstream Digital transformation can make health and care systems interoperable enough for the care to be delivered seamlessly

Potential Roadblocks Existing clinical working practices Existing metrics that drive clinical systems Variable interpretation of Data governance

Some insights from an international perspective… “C suite” active involvement essential Take the best and trial Spread and deployment at scale is the biggest challenge … Managing governance and audit from the design stage is essential The people in receipt of the service are key players

Dr Charles Alessi Chief Clinical Officer Thank you! Dr Charles Alessi Chief Clinical Officer @ CharlesAlessi
