SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE TEENS HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE

Take responsibility for your life. HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE Take responsibility for your life. Definition: Being proactive means taking control of the things you can control and forgetting about the things you can’t. Reactive people make choices based on impulse. What can you control? (Activity: Piece of paper, 2 columns label proactive/reactive) Listen to the following list. Identify each item as something you can control (in the proactive column) or cannot (reactive). What’s the Point? YOU CAN ONLY CONTROL YOURSELF!!!

ACTIVITY 2 WHAT DO YOU DO? Scene 1: You see pictures on Facebook of your best friend at a party the night she said she was too busy to hang out with you. She doesn’t know you saw the photos. Just five minutes ago, this same friend was sweet-talking you right to your face. You feel hurt and betrayed. What do you do? Give examples of both proactive and reactive responses

ACTIVITY 2 WHAT DO YOU DO? Scene 2: You’ve been working at your retail job for awhile now and have been completely committed and dependable (I know, you don’t have a job now, but you will). Recently, a new employee joined the crew and he gets the coveted Saturday afternoon shift – the shift you were hoping for. What do you do? Give examples of both proactive and reactive responses

ACTIVITY 3 ROLE PLAYING Each group will be given 2 scenarios to act out. The scenario is labeled wither proactive or reactive. Work with your group to create a skit for the class. The class must determine what the scene is and if your response was proactive or reactive.
