Spanish Omelette - Dissection Parth Patel 08/31/2011

Self Introduction My name is Parth Patel. BS in Computer Science, 2010 SPSU Graduate I have been working in NCR Corporation for about 14 months. I have been playing games since childhood starting with Nintendo videos games till RPGs. My favorites: AOE 2, Railroad Tycoon 2, Counter Stick 1.6 , Civilization 4 Created my first PC game in 2009: Chess Heroes in C# and 2D In future, I want to do MS in Game Development and Design.

Spanish Omelette’s theme/history, Spanish Omelette is a food preparation game. In addition to food preparation, they have also added the puzzle element to it. Compared to other games this game is made with more realistic images. This realistic images makes you feel like you are in kitchen. People will also learn how to make spanish omelet after playing this game. Most of the people playing this game will try to cook after playing this game.

Hook or Motivation The key motivation for playing this game is the realistic environment and difficulty in solving puzzle (What’s the next step). There are many other food preparation games like this one which will bring cooking crazy people. However, the realistic images and real kitchen feel will bring more players on this game then others. Challenging in solving puzzle (if you don’t know how to cook) will keep hardcore players. Spanish omelets is also a good and easy food to prepare.

Key Mechanics Key mechanics of this game are as follows: Point and click allows players to search for useful items on the screen. The hand and the arrow of the mouse pointer helps to differentiate where you can click and where you cannot. Navigating those different views is easy because of real kitchen like feel. Different part of kitchen are nicely divided and pointers helps to navigate nicely. They have also provide the space on right side to mix different stuff. On the bottom of the screen, they have provided a status/comments bar where you player can see comments if he is doing correctly or not. The items needed for Spanish omelet are nicely kept in the book which is on the kitchen.

My Opinion This game is fun at first glance. I am not a great fan of cooking. Therefore, I got bored when I was not able to find some items on the list. At first glance, the game looks really good because of the realistic environment. However, for people who doesn’t know how to cook Spanish omelet and specially doesn’t know how to cook is very difficult to play. The game is clearly meant for cooking fans. I like the way it teaches you. I am sure, if I was able to complete this game, then I would have tried to make this omelet. Which means I like the game but its too difficult for me or any other non-cooker I like the point and click mechanics. Good mechanics for people who likes cooking (Kids, teenagers, female, and old people).
