What is the NHS? The National Honor Society is an organization founded to honor students who have excelled in areas of leadership, scholarship, service, and character.

Guidelines

Scholarship Guidelines A student must keep a GPA of an 88 or better in order to qualify.

Character Guidelines Constantly exemplifies desirable qualities of personality (cheerfulness, friendliness, poise, stability) Cooperates by complying with school regulations concerning property, programs, office, halls, etc. Demonstrates highest standards of honesty and reliability shows courtesy, concern and respect for others

Leadership Guidelines Demonstrates leadership in promoting school activities, exercises influence on peers in upholding school ideals, organizes and motivates peers to achieve a common goal Successfully holds school offices/positions of responsibility, conducts business efficiently and effectively, and is reliable and dependable without prodding Is thoroughly dependable in any responsibility he/she accepts

Service Guidelines Participates in some Outside-of-School Service Activity Dependable volunteer that provides well-organized assistance; is available on his/her own time and is sacrificing without compensation including grades or pay Readiness to show courtesy by assisting visitors, teachers or students

Membership Expectations All after school meetings are MANDATORY Volunteering- 15 hours a marking period - 8 in school, 7 out of school Attend all NHS functions Attend parent teacher conferences

Completing the Application Fill in pertinent information Review LBHS Bylaws located on Mrs. Lamberson’s teacher page Complete Required Signatures (student and parent and advisor) Ascertain 2 letters of recommendation Complete Essay If you are missing any information in any category, write a short statement and attach to your application explaining why.

Submitting your application A paper copy of your application with signatures and letters of recommendation must be dropped off to Mrs. Camacho by 2:30pm on Monday November 12, 2018. Late submissions under no circumstances will be accepted.
