Key Findings – Belgium The nature of online risk types: The types of risks that stood out for Belgium compared to the global averages included: 1) receiving offensive or obscene content, 2) being called offensive names, and 3) being asked inappropriate or personal questions by a stranger Our social circles became more risky: Within Belgium, risks stemming from family and friends also increased significantly to 27%, up 15 percentage points from the previous year  The pain from online risks was noteworthy: Within Belgium, moderate to severe pain was experienced by 55% of respondents, in line with the global average Mixed showing in consequences and positive actions taken: Belgians were less likely to say they lost trust in others due to an online risk, but were more likely to have become stressed and lost sleep Teenagers were hit hardest by risks: More teenagers in Belgium suffered moderate to severe pain vs. their global peers (65% vs. 58%) There was a surge in teens asking for help. Belgium was slightly lower than the global average for teens seeking help from parents (40%) with an online issue and in asking for help from other adults (25%); however, both were almost twice the previous year’s levels Improvement in Microsoft's Digital Civility Index (DCI): Belgium (-5) registered a gain at 56, and ranks #4 for DCI of the 22 countries surveyed

More teens asked for help with online risks Worldwide, there was a big surge in teenagers asking for help with online risks from both parents (+32 points to 42%) and adults (+19 points to 28%) In Belgium, teens fell below the worldwide average when it came to asking a parent or adult for help with an online issue, but they were more likely to seek guidance from some  adult than in the previous year’s study   Asking parents for help jumped 33 points Asking another adult for help rose 15 points Q12: Have you ever taken any of the following actions after you were treated in an unsafe or uncivil manner online?
