Money Responsibility Ronald E. McNair Public School 5 Financial Literacy Leadership Program (FLLP) explores basic and practical methods to educate, inform and enlighten students on becoming financial stewards over their finances while taking them on an entrepreneurial journey in preparation for the emerging economy. FLLP is a principle-based program filled with a fun practical curriculum, couple with games and activities that drive home fundamental terms and best practices to engage students in becoming financial stewards while sharpening their English, language and Art (ELA) skills around the fundamentals of Math. The program includes family and school participation that focus on family budgeting savings and financial goal setting. Successful money management includes keeping records of money spent. This lesson introduces elementary-aged children to the concept of being responsible for managing money through accurate record keeping. It provides them with activities that demonstrate the need to be accountable for how they spend and save money. Failure to keep records and balances can lead to negative outcomes. Students need to understand the effects of their money-related behavior. Through educational experiences they can learn to be responsible for what they do with their money. This will help them become fiscally responsible adults. Inventory & Pricing In partnership with Brooklyn Public Library, students participate in a one-day workshop where they learn how to take inventory, price and markup merchandise in order to make a profit, the anatomy of a book; and create their own personalized database. Allowance and Spending Promotion & Publicity Children in grades 3 thru 6 are capable of managing small amounts of money. They can divide money into several categories, including "spend," "save," and "give." At the same time, they can spend their money and keep a record of what was spent. Allowances are the first step to understanding written spending plans or budgets. With guidance managing allowances in childhood, children can become financially responsible adults. Adults with effective budget skills create healthier family relationships and contribute to building a stronger economy. students are introduce to basic promotional strategies such as but not limited to coupons and flyer promotions; radio vs. print; and TV commercial. they explore how book reviews and book signing can create store traffic and the difference between earned media and paid media. .
