Do’s and Don’ts of Business Card Design GSA Professional Development
Don’ts Scrimp on paper quality! Good feel = good impression Use a border around the edge of the card Cards are never cut 100% perfectly, so it will show any misalignment in the printing Use a background design or color palette that’s unreadable People won’t work to read your card; make it easy for them! Make your text tiny (best range is 10-14 pt) Because it’s so important, I’m saying it on both slides…don’t print without proofreading! Emails are the worst offender here; your spell check won’t see that you have two periods in “gmail..com” or that you’ve transposed two letters in the handle, but people won’t be able to contact you Don’ts
Contact info (obvious, but double check!) Add a personal/professional email as well as CUA email Make sure your voicemail message is work-appropriate Spell-check!!!! Make sure the text is large enough Make sure your design doesn’t run over the printable space on the card (most sites have a dotted line or something to delineate) Make a QR code, especially if you’re in a business or tech- forward field Use appropriate colors (CUA colors or, if you have your own brand/business, match with that) Do’s
