Essential Standards-Science The units that are covered in 4th grade Science include: Forces and Motion Matter: Properties and Change Energy: Conservation and Transfer Earth and the Universe Earth History Ecosystems Molecular Biology

Essential Standards- Social Studies The units in Social Studies this year include: Economics and Financial Literacy Civics and Government North Carolina History and Culture Geography and Environmental Literacy Social Studies and Science will be integrated into the ELA curriculum through Reader’s Workshop studies on historical fiction and nonfiction texts.

IB Units Where We Are In Place and Time- Geography and North Carolina History Who We Are Civics and Government How We Express Ourselves North Carolina Culture How The World Works Forces and Motion How We Organize Ourselves Economics and Financial Literacy Sharing the Planet Earth and the Universe Earth History, Ecosystems See POI for details!

Math Common Core Place Value Read ,write, and compare numbers to one million, use all four operations to answer word problems (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction) Fractions Add, subtract, multiply, and compare fractions Mixed numbers and improper fractions Algebra Order of Operations and algebraic expressions Input/Output charts Measurement and Data Measurement conversions and volume Line plots Area and Perimeter Geometry Draw and identify lines and angles Classify shapes by properties

Reading Lucy Calkins Reading Workshop Interpreting Characters Non-Fiction Reading History Historical Fiction Book Clubs Emphasize the necessity to provide text evidence! Explain that this is something they can push at home as well!

Writing Students will integrate writing across the curriculum. Students will concentrate on grammar in writing workshop as well. Not a separate grade on the report card and writing grades will be included in ELA.

Grading 100-90 = A 89-80 = B 79-70 = C 69-60 = D 59 and below = F Students may turn in work late, but 10% will be deducted per day. No late work will be accepted within the week of posting grades for progress reports and report cards. All work must be in to post grades. Grades will be posted by standard. This is how you will see each assignment in Powerschool. Students must get an 79% on a formal assignment or better. If they do not, the assignment will be re- taught, and a new assignment will be given.

Behavior Homework & Communication Cotswold’s Essential 10 Credits and Debits System (entire grade level). Homework assigned on the Friday of each week, and it is due the following Friday. 2 1/2 hours of reading a week Math worksheet Agenda books are a home/school connection for teachers & parents
