Space Data Needs Wall-wall imagery required for the period 2015 - 1990 Preference for Landsat data due to cost, availability on time series and its moderate resolution that allows categorization of our features of interest. Provision of pre-processed images - LT1 High resolution imagery (e.g. SPOT) will be used to clarify training sites Images of the dry season and with less clouds have been proposed i.e. January – March A few sites along the coastal region are affected by clouds – we need alternative data to solve the issue of clouds or time series pixel based methodologies that overcome the problem SDCG-7 Sydney, Australia March 4th – 6th 2015

Existing maps Maps of 1990 and 2000 produced from LANDSAT

For 2010, mapping was done using the Japanese ALOS AVNIR-2 and DMC satellite data used to fill gaps Preliminary accuracy assessment shows that the land cover change methods were not accurate . The process of accuracy assessment is supported by FAO

Land cover change map 1990-2010

Optimal Sampling scheme for an NFI Current challenges & obstacles where GFOI assistance may be most valuable Training Land cover classification, Change detection and Uncertainty analysis Use of open source software MGD best practices and step by step instructions Refining/reviewing our process manuals Optimal Sampling scheme for an NFI SDCG-7 Sydney, Australia March 4th – 6th 2015

Land cover maps 1990 and 2010 Most of Kenya land cover was classified as grassland- There is need to put more effort on the grasslands
