Drawbacks Lack of “tailor-made” information on research activities and insufficient dialogue among scientists and policy-makers No coordination mechanism to access information and making the best use of research inputs/funding This insufficient awareness from both sides generates a huge number of lost opportunities and losses of resources at EU level

Proposal for a workshop Sharing information on current funding mechanisms (Priorities 6.3 & 8, ERA-NET, LIFE etc.) Discussing coordination needs for better integrating research and demonstration into the CIS process Giving the possibility for Member States to provide an overview of their research programmes via posters/handouts

Next steps Approval by SCG June-September: design of draft agenda, contacts of different players End September: Annual PRB conference including a session on research Approval of workshop agenda by SCG in October and Water Directors in November Workshop held closely within CIS process early 2005
