Why was Israel created as a Jewish State in 1948? Possible reasons for the creation of a Jewish State were: A RELIGIOUS CONNECTION to the land (The Jews believed that this land was their promised land, promised to them by their God) Anti-Semitism, hatred and discrimination towards Jewish people. Jewish Persecution, harsh treatment towards the Jewish people; Holocaust International Support (Supporters of Jewish people) Zionism- movement for Jewish people to return to their homeland (Palestine)

Why was Israel created as a Jewish State in 1948? Thesis Statement: Israel was created as a Jewish State in 1948 because of a Religious Connection to the land, Jewish Persecution and International Support.

Why was Israel created as a Jewish State in 1948? While you read, please keep in mind: Read the source (where did it come from?) Circle any words you do not know Highlight anything that can be used as evidence to support one of the three reasons for the creation of Israel as a Jewish State.

Why was Israel created as a Jewish State in 1948? Document D The Enemy Quote: “The Jews…were targeted…for complete extinction.” Mean: The Nazi’s wanted them [the Jews] all dead. Argument: Quote: “Nazi’s were the heirs of centuries-old tradition of Jew-hatred.” Mean: The Nazi’s were continuing long-held discrimination towards Jewish people. Argument: This quote helps support the establishment of Israel as a Jewish homeland, because of the events of the Holocaust. The only way to ensure that the events of the Holocaust wouldn’t be repeated is if the Jews had their own homeland. (Jews need to be safe).

Document E Balfour Declaration Quote: “…declaration [letter] of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations [goals]…” (IS) Mean: The British government is going to support the Jewish people to return to their biblical homeland [Palestine]. Argument: Quote: “His Majesty’s Government view [looks] with favour [good terms] the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people,…” (IS) Mean: The British government supports and accepts that they [the Jewish people] will have a home in Palestine.

Document E Balfour Declaration (Another View) Quote: “…being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine…” Mean: The British government was not going to kick out the people [the Palestinians] who already live in Palestine. Argument: Creation of a two-state “solution”. Israel is a state within the country of Palestine.

Argument: Indoctrination of young German children to teach hatred towards Jewish people
