Today’s Agenda Derrytrasna Pastoral Award EA/C2K Survey Digital School House Fundraiser – term 2 AOB

The Derrytrasna Pastoral Care Award 2019 How to Nominate a School? The Department of Education, in partnership with the Public Health Agency, is seeking examples of outstanding pastoral care in schools. The Award recognises school communities that have demonstrated exceptional co- operative effort in supporting the pastoral care of pupils in the 2017/18 academic year. The closing date is Friday 14 December 2018 and communities are being urged to nominate now. You can nominate your child’s school for the award if your child has benefitted from exceptional pastoral care in the 2017/2018 academic year (September 2017 to June 2018). Those in the wider community can also nominate a school if they know of the exceptional care the school provided in the 2017/2018 academic year. Schools cannot, however, self-nominate. When making your nomination please take note to only nominate if you feel the standards of Pastoral Care have exceeded the normal expectations - see these examples.

Examples Example 1 In post primary schools, the school’s pastoral care is concerned with preparing pupils for the demands and challenges of adult and working life Example 2 The pastoral care system includes the support which a school offers pupils at vulnerable times, such as mentoring or counselling provided either by school staff or external experts

C2k/EA Survey C2k/EA are now embarking on a comprehensive consultation exercise with schools and stakeholders e.g. parents to seek views on the shape of future ICT provision. To help with this, a series of surveys are being conducted to allow everyone to contribute to the process and share your views and ideas. In order to help understand the needs of parents for future ICT services, we would be very grateful if you could take a few moments to complete the survey before Friday 30th November.

Examples of Questions Technology use in the classroom can enhance my child's learning * Agree Disagree Not sure I would like to receive my child's school report online * Rating 1-4 (strongly agree - strongly disagree How would you prefer to be contacted by your school? Choose from a range of options

Digital School House An update

Fundraising Event – where are we at? The main outcome of the meeting was a collective decision to hold an afternoon tea event sometime in term 2 (a week or two before Easter), as a fundraiser for the school – 7th April It was suggested that a Sunday would be ideal. Gathering sponsorship for tables would be a priority.

Proposals Need a group to plan / prepare the food and hall Need a group to gather sponsorship for each table and organise the pricing and the collection of the money Need a group to organise the stewardship of the hall and help promote the event Need to involve the pupils too – could fulfil part of coursework for them (catering / serving)

Our New Priorities (4) Staff and Pupil Emotional Health and Well Being (EHWB) CEIAG & Curriculum Learning that fulfils the needs of individual pupils Development of Digital Learning

When & how often to meet? For the association to meet every 5-6 weeks & aim for 6 meeting per year; Trial a Monday @ 5pm with meetings lasting approx. 30mins; To build up a PFTA forum for parents unable to attend meetings but are willing to contribute to discussions and share their views with us on important matters. Proposed Dates Meeting 1 Oct 15th 2018 (Mon) Meeting 2 Nov 26th 2018 (Mon) Meeting 3 January 21st 2019 (Mon) Meeting 4 February 25th 2018 (Mon) Meeting 5 TBC Meeting 6
