The Electoral College elects the President. The Founding Fathers feared that an uneducated population would be bamboozled by a fast talking politician. Therefore, they created the EC to act as a safety net.

Voters vote Each political party has representatives in the EC The number of reps. in the EC is determined by adding the states representative in the House plus its Senators The representatives in the EC from the winning political party get to vote for the President. They always vote for their candidate but if their guy turns out to be dangerous for the nation then it is their responsibility to choose another guy.

There are 15 departments (Secretaries) to help the President with his massive job responsibilities. Here are a few key departments State Department The Secretary of State meets with foreign nations etc. (John Kerry) Department of Defense The Secretary of Defense runs the military (Chuck Hagal) Department of Justice The Attorney General (The top lawyer) is in charge of the executive branchs legal matters (Eric Holder)

Commands the Military The President controls the military (Congress creates and pays the military) Appoints important Government officials The President hires Supreme Court Justices and other important members of the Government (The Senate must approve all of the appointments) Makes Treaties The President can make deals with other countries (The Senate must approve those deals) Grants Pardons The President can get you out of jail! Enforces the Laws The main role and job of the President is to make sure that the laws are being followed
