Friday March 17, 2017 Sandra Day O’Connor was born on March 26, 1930, in el Paso, Texas. She spent her early childhood living on her parents ranch in Arizona. When she was school age, her parents send her to live with her grandmother in Texas so she could attend a elite private school. After recieving her law degree from Stanford University, she accepted a position as an unpayed county attorney because female attorneys had very limited job prospects at that time. O’Connor later worked at a private law firm for a few years before eventualy returning to public service. She served as an assistant attorney general, state senator, and county and state court judge in Arizona. In 1981, President Ronald Reagan nominated her to the supreme court. The U.S. Senate unanimously approved her appointment making her the first female to serve on the highest court in the country.
