6.2 | Emailing Leaders
STEPS 1 & 2 – LEARN & PRACTICE As reporters, you will need to email teachers, coaches and advisers to ask for permission to interview and photograph their activity. Draft an email that you can use. Submit it to your adviser for editing before sending it How students present themselves and their mission to people of authority is key to their success in getting the information and photos you need. The emails need to be well-crafted and direct.
EMAIL SHOULD INCLUDE . An introduction like, “Dear Mrs. X,” An explanation of your position on the yearbook staff. An explanation of what you would like from them and when you would like it. Include as many specifics as possible. A reason why you would like it and why it will benefit them. A closing like: Thank you, Mrs. X! Joe Student Activities Editor Your email should be as short and informative as possible.
STEP 3 – USE After your adviser has approved your letter, use it, changing specifics, when you email leaders for permission to get photos and interviews.
