Solving Quadratics by Factoring This is another review topic from Algebra 2, but I want to make sure you can factor and be able to use it before going into Pre-Calc, where they are not going to have time to stop and teach it to you!
Zero-Product Property If ab = 0, then a =0 or b=0. Example : If (x +3) (x -7) = 0 then (x +3) = 0 or (x -7) = 0.
Zero Product Property ( x + 3)(x + 2) = 0 (x + 5)(2x – 3 ) = 0
Example: Solve by Factoring x – 8x – 48 = 0 x + x – 12 = 0 2 2
Example: Solve by Factoring 2x – 5x = 88 2 x - 12x = -36 2
Classwork You should be able to finish at least the first 22 problems (side 1) of the worksheet and check your answers with the key up front before you leave today! The rest of the worksheet is homework!
