What is Farmer Refuted? This song is based off a publish piece of writing in 1775 called the Free Thoughts on the Proceedings of the Continental Congress and a pamphlet named Farmer Refuted. The conflict includes Alexander Hamilton arguing with a pastor named Samuel Seabury

Free Thoughts on the Proceedings of the Continental Congress Discouraged the American Revolution Tried to convince citizens of the thirteen colonies to accept the England government and stay as they are Written by Samuel Seabury!

Farmer Refuted Written by Alexander Hamilton to rebuttle all the statements from the Free Thoughts on the Proceedings of the Continental Congress Encouraged the revolution and promoted new ways of thinking to the public Title of the song

Two sides Patriots: Loyalists: “Colonists of the Thirteen Colonies who rebelled against British control during the American Revolution and in July 1776 declared the United States of America an independent nation.” Loyalists: “American colonists who remained loyal to the British Crown during the American Revolutionary War.” _________________________________________ Samuel Seabury boi King George lll Hercules Mulligan

Loyalists and Patriots Wanted to be independent from England Freedom The rights of citizens Have their opinions heard by England Feared the power that Britain held Not been treated fairly Being taxed without consent Wanted to be part of England Accepted the England government Felt like lives would be better under the rule of a powerful king Feared chaos and bloodshed of war England troops would overpower thirteen colonies _____________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________

Samuel Seabury Loyalist Wrote the Free Thoughts on the Proceedings of the Continental Congress Discouraged the revolution Became the first American Episcopal bishop Roasted by Hamilton His sleeves oh my

Alexander Hamilton Patriot Strongly encouraged the American Revolution Dreamed of changing America’s future for the greater good from a young age Not afraid to stand up for his beliefs Author of Farmer Refuted pamphlet Spits FIRE

“Chaos and bloodshed are not a solution” War with England will destroy the thirteen colonies Its best to stay under the rule of a king

“Chaos and bloodshed already haunt us” Boston Massacre Invigorated patriots to start actual war with King George and his men, seeing it as manslaughter and calling it a massacre. Hamilton uses this as evidence to show the public that they need to fight for their rights

“Why should a tiny island across the sea regulate the price of tea?” Tea Act + other tax acts Lead to the Boston Tea Party, one of the most important acts of rebellion by the thirteen colonies

Emerging ideas and ideologies profoundly influence societies and events Big idea State what you believe Theme 1 Fight for your rights Theme 2 In the song, Hamilton fought with Seabury about which ideology was more crucial to the future of America. Should the thirteen colonies just accept their British rulers or should they stand up for their nation and demand independence? Hamilton did not hide his opinions from Seabury and took a stand. He argued his beliefs and gained support Fight for what is right because one day, it might change history forever
