By : Lenny Frieson The Coniferous Forest

z Precipitation Range In a temperate coniferous forest the yearly rain can be from 300 to 900 millimeters (30 –90cm) Some Coniferous Forest can get 60mm in a month

z Temperature Range The Coniferous Forest has also been known to have hit –74 degrees Fahrenheit in winter and hit 104 degrees in summer Summer: 5 –12 degrees Celsius Winter: 0 to –15 degrees Celsius The average summer temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius

Soil Characteristics z The soil in the Coniferous Forest lacks nutrients due to the usually cold temperature. The soil is also very thin in its layers The soil also contains acid because of acid rich evergreen needles http://myriverside.sd43.bc.ca/kirag-2014/2015/09/16/biome-regions-of-canada/

z Plant Adaptation Some trees that inhabit the Coniferous Forest biome are the Siberian Spruce, the Paper Birch, and the Jack Pine. Most of the trees have adapted to store more water, retain heat during the cold months, and shed snow. https://www.greenandgrowing.org/coniferous-forest-biome-preserving/

z Animal Adaptation Animals: Rodents, Amphibians, Beavers, Geese, and various insects Some of the top consumer include the Bald Eagle, Brown bear, and Gray Wolf. They have adapted by either hibernating, changing fur color for the environment, or traveling in packs to efficiently catch prey. http://animalia-life.club/other/coniferous-forest-animals.html

z Locations Coniferous Forest can be found in Canada, Asia, Europe and the United States The longitude of the coniferous forest in Columbiaville, MI is around 43.1023 and -83.4372 They are typically between 50-60 degrees North Latitude http://www.climatecentral.org/news/greening-tundra-shows-impacts-of-spreading-warmth-15723

Special Characteristics and Sensitivities The Coniferous Forest is mostly made up of Coniferous Evergreen Trees that contain pinecone and pine needles that have help to sustain the vegetation in the biome The ground usually is covered with acid rich pine needles The coniferous forest covers about 15% of the Earth's land mass The wildlife is extremely sensitive to even low intensity hunting Most of the Coniferous forest require periodic fires to moderate many environmental processes
