Project Proposal Presentation By Vicky Rollinson

Arts & Crafts Home décor Ceramic kitchen tiles Made for my own home Repeat pattern design Taking inspiration from the Arts & Crafts movement – handmade, bespoke, nature etc. Textiles and glass work as well?

My context I’m interested in working in the context of ‘craft’. I want to produce bespoke work that is handmade using traditional techniques. I’m going to look at the work of the ceramicist Elizabeth Fritsch along with William Morris, William De Morgan and the Arts & Crafts movement. I might also look into the Pre-Raphaelites and the kind of colours and symbols used in these paintings.

This is relevant to my idea because… I’d like to try experimenting with non- traditional tile shapes, like diamonds and interlocking shapes. I could also try the same thing with glass tiles.

This is relevant to my idea because… I also want to experiment with raku glazes. I think it’d be fun to combine arts & crafts motifs with the grey-scale colours of raku. Also, I could incorporate nature by using plants in the firing process.

This is relevant to my idea because… This is a vessel by Elizabeth Fritsch. I’d like to use her work as inspiration during this project. She creates optical illusions on ceramic forms using underglazes. I’d like to try throwing forms and glazing them but I’d also like to try making wooden vessels on the lathe.
