IB Psych 10/12/17 Intros only… Today’s Agenda: Working on SAQ HW: Turn in: Nothing Take out : Writing Implement NOTES Learning Outcomes Chart Today’s Learning Objectives (not exclusive): All 13!!! I can write an effective introduction to an SAQ so my reader can quickly determine the topic of my writing. Today’s Agenda: Working on SAQ Intros only… HW: Find a study…ANY “new” study that relates to BIO & construct an intro connected to ANY of the Learning Outcomes…

SAQ Structure “Suggestions” Address the command term and prompt immediately. While not an essay, think of this as your introduction. Prompt: Describe one study of conformity. “In describing one study in relation to conformity, the following narrative will outline the details of the concept, using examples from [performed research].” Any thoughts as to what name we could give this “performed research”? WHY: at least two reasons…now I’m adding a third It demonstrated your understanding of the command term to your reader—who happen to be human, and can be immediately impressed with your knowledge of all things IB… It provides an anchor to YOU to help keep you on point throughout the response. You can name the research on which you’re writing!!!

Command Term Examples: Level 1—Knowledge/Comprehension Define: Give the precise meaning of a word, concept, phrase. Say what it means in psychology and use precise vocabulary to do that. Describe: Give a detailed account Write a narrative that outlines the details of something using examples. Outline: Give a brief account or summary of something. Give a brief summary of whatever is mentioned in the question. State: Give a specific name or other brief answer without explanation. Give a very brief answer but don't explain anything.

SAQ Structure “Suggestions” Define any terms that warrant further demonstration of knowledge. i.e. Conformity Apply the defined word beyond the definition to demonstrate your understanding of the word in relation to a more general population. Put it in “layman’s” terms…

SAQ Structure “Suggestions” Define any terms that warrant further demonstration of knowledge. Can we think of anything that might need to be defined here??? Meany, et al. Raine, et al.
