Edexcel GCSE Physical Education – Effective Revision Strategies “RAG” your Work This is crucial! Here’s some tips: Re-attempt questions that we have done in lessons – If you have not achieved the maximum marks, do it again and then assess your response. Cardiovascular Fitness Improved through Fartlek training (changes of speed and intensity) Physical, Emotional and Social health, fitness and well-being – Physical health: How increasing physical ability, through improving components of fitness can improve health/reduce health risks and how these benefits are achieved Emotional health: How participation in physical activity and sport can improve emotional/psychological health and how these benefits are achieved. Social health: how participation in physical activity and sport can improve social health and how these benefits are achieved. Impact of fitness on well-being: positive and negative health effects. Lifestyle choices in relation to: diet, activity level, work/ rest/sleep balance, and recreational drugs (alcohol, nicotine). Positive and negative impact of lifestyle choices on health, fitness and well-being, e.g. the negative effects of smoking (bronchitis, lung cancer). The consequences of a sedentary lifestyle – A sedentary lifestyle and its consequences: overweight, overfat, obese, increased risk to long-term health, e.g. depression, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, increased risk of osteoporosis, loss of muscle tone, posture, impact on components of fitness. Mind Maps and Revision Components of Fitness Suitable for a central midfield player because… Interval training may be more suited to a forward because…. Physical Training Exam Practice! Test Your Knowledge of Key Words Cardiac Output – Provide an accurate definition. Extend it! Can you apply it to another topic within the course? For example, a long term effect of exercise would be cardiac hypertrophy – increasing maximum cardiac output and lowering your resting heart rate. Protein – Consumed for muscle growth and repair. Power athletes would consume protein to promote muscle hypertrophy. They would time consumption around training and sleep to enhance growth and repair of muscle tissue. End of unit/half termly assessment: Attempt questions that you have not answered well again. Use your ReACT points and the official mark schemes to assess your responses. Ensure that you achieve maximum marks. IAD 5min I MUST IDENTIFY 3 of the food groups suitable to a Basketball player – This will get me 3 marks for AO1! This means AO2 – I MUST EXPLAIN why a Basketball player would consume each food group, explaining how it would benefit their performance in the game. “Breakdown” Exam Questions Explain the importance of 3 food groups to a Basketball player. (6 marks) Practice Longer Mark Exam Questions and Understand their Structure: You will do 6 and 9 mark questions! Remember the rhyme, KNOWLEDGE (AO1), APPLY (AO2), SAY WHY (Evaluate AO3) Show off your knowledge (define/state), apply your knowledge to the question (explain), evaluate your response (+/-/analyse).
