SOCIAL STUDIES, SCIENCE, THEME Sept. 28,2015 ZOO-PHONICS Have you heard the song, “Meet Me at the Zoo”? We sure hope so!! The students will continue reviewing our Zoo-phonics animals through activities, games, and songs. We will focus on letter names, sounds, signals, and writing formations of 1 or 2 animals (letters) a week – please see calendar. We will begin putting these letters together, using the sounds and signals, to read small words. The children will read some new poems, finding specified letters, rhyming words, and sight words. For extra at-home practice, you could play “I Spy” with your child. Pick a Zoo-phonics animal and find items that begin with that sound. REMINDERS Homework bags, along with completed work, will be collected on Fridays (or the last day of the school week. It is your child’s responsibility to bring it to school on time. Failure to do so could result in a mark on the ROAR chart. Please remember to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher @ www.myconferencetime.com/les or call Mr. Smith @ 330-875-1177. BIRTHDAYS Mrs. Adams - none Mrs. Bresson - Miss Brown - Gavin Mrs. Dougherty – Mitchell and Paige Mrs. Miller - none MATH The children will participate in a wide variety of hands-on learning activities. They will explore shapes, practice counting skills, classify objects in different ways, and begin to solve number stories. The students will also continue learning calendar and weather skills each day in our morning meeting time. SOCIAL STUDIES, SCIENCE, THEME Our activities this month will include the 4 seasons of the year, focusing on the uniqueness of Fall. Apples, pumpkins, spiders, and Halloween will enhance many learning activities. Lots of fun! DAILY 5 This month, we will begin the transition to the Daily 5, our schools Literacy program. The children will begin to learn how to complete simple activities without the teacher. As the children work independently, or in small groups, the teacher can begin to conduct small reading groups, focusing on specific skills.
