Collaboration Power Up PD Module 4

Collaboration What makes for effective collaboration? What have been the pitfalls of classroom collaboration in the past?

Collaboration Students working together spend time talking about the content and process of their work. They also check each other’s understanding.

Collaboration Options Shared Google Docs Shared Google Presentations Filling out a form together

Tips for shared Google Docs Be sure the students share their document with you the day they create it. They should give you “edit” access. Upper right corner of the document

Tips for shared Google Docs You can use “File/See revision history” to see who worked on the project and when. Revision history is available for google drive documents, presentation, spreadsheets etc. Revision history can help teachers catch plagiarism and also verify when students worked on a project.

Collaborative Presentations Students divide the work so that each contributes a part of a larger project. This character traits presentation was a 45 minute project for four students.

Plug In Share a document or presentation with someone in the room and type together. Look at the revision history for that doc or another one. Plug in challenges are small tasks teachers can usually accomplish quickly, in the workshop, to get more familiar with the tools. These are suggestions, but you can change and adapt them to work for your staff.

Long Term Collaboration Shared blogs Research projects Writing Response Groups

Students research one question all year long.

Easily make groups http://goo.gl/Oqn3Mj view only, use The Group Creator Spreadsheet will help you group your students quickly based on data you provide. http://goo.gl/Oqn3Mj view only, use File/Make a copy The group creator slide appears several times in the modules. Encourage teachers to try it out when they are ready.

Power Up Start a collaborative project with your students. Collaborate with a colleague on a presentation. Have students create and present together. Suggested challenges that you can adapt to the specifics of your situation.
