What’s a claim? A claim statement is a lot like a thesis statement. They both establish what the essay is going to be about. They both appear in the introduction. However, a claim statement can be argued, such as whether a fact is true or not, a situation is good or bad, or one action is better than another. It has a subject (the issue being discussed) and opinions (the main ideas presented) that support it.

Example There are numerous downsides to year-round schooling. It has no positive effects on education, it adds to the cost, and it disturbs the long-awaited summer.

How to Correct Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers Identify the modifier. If it’s a phrase, make sure you include the entire thing Identify the subject the modifier is supposed to be modifying.
