Institutions are rarely murdered. They meet their end by suicide.. They die because they have outlived their usefulness, or fail to do the work, That the world wants done (Harvard president Lawrence lowell, )

Mission statement A brief declaration of why the organization exists It provides the foundation on which we will build our products and services It identifies to whom we are delivering our products and services

Uses of mission statement To gain commitment To serve as a communication device To serve as a marketing slogan To set expectations To initiate dialogue

Creating a mission statement Q1. why does the organization exist? What is its value for its customers? Q2. who is the organization's customer base? Q3. what functions does the organization perform for its customers? Q4. how does the organization do its work or fill its functions? Q5. if the organization did not exist, what would be absent in the marketplace?

Second, vision for NTU as a UNIQUE global leader and pioneer, and a testbed for transformative innovations and practices that are widely adopted across Singapore and around the world Third, vision for NTU as a transformative leader in education And finally, our vision for NTU to engage with global industry

Example 1: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) aims to emerge as a leading research intensive university of Pakistan, comparable to the top universities of the world within the next 10 years.  It will be a comprehensive, residential university, responsive to technological change, dedicated to excellence and committed to international education perspective. The University will fulfill its responsibility of graduating culturally enlightened, technologically knowledgeable, and academically competent and research- oriented productive citizens who are prepared to lead, to inspire, and to serve humanity.  The University commits itself and all its resources to this trust and responsibility.
