Ch 1: Learn about children Children in Your Life: Do you like kids? Do you know how to handle and care for children? Do you feel comfortable watching a newborn? A 2 year old? Why do some people get along so well with children while others feel so uncomfortable?

Child Development--- Why?? Why is it so important to learn about children? Helps you: 1. Understand ___________ 2. Understand ___________ Plan for the ___________ Child development is the study of how children grow ___________, ___________, and ___________

Raising a Child A lot goes in to raising a child. ___________ of parents is one of the most important needs of a child What trends are we seeing now that may take love out of the picture (not in all cases)?? _________ ___________

Understanding Children Kids say and do crazy things… Why? It’s all part of their ___________ If you know WHY– you learn to appreciate How can you do this? ___________ their behaviors, Learn their “___________” Predicting ___________ behavior– temper tantrum at 2 vs 10 year old

Gain Confidence Children can pick up on uncomfortable feelings Learning how to properly bathe a child, selecting nutritious foods, encouraging naps, all leads to a healthy ___________ and a ___________ child

Understanding Yourself You are constantly developing but maintaining a sold core… what does this mean? Why is this the case? ___________, ___________, ___________

A look to the past… What were you like as a young child? Many of your ___________ ___________ carry through to adulthood What did you love when you were growing up? What would you have liked to change? Who did you look up to the most?

Why does this matter? What you experienced as a child made you who you are today and will carry with you until adulthood. Parenting is a HUGE responsibility. You are not only raising a child but you are molding them to become a healthy and responsible adult

Thinking about your future… How responsible are you now? Would you be able to raise a child in the best possible manner? Planning to have children is a life-altering commitment and takes two people to make that decision. “Those who understand the responsibilities of children and parenthood are more apt to accept the responsibilities of human sexuality.”

Photo Assignment “The self you have developed through the past years will always be a part of you tomorrow.” Explain this statement while reflecting on your photo. What experiences in your past made you who you are today? How has your personality stayed the same? How have you grown, and developed into the person you are today?
