John Nance Garner So FDR was the Hero of the great depression right? With his New Deal Policies and gunslinger attitude. He was not the only hero, you see John Nance Garner served at the Vice President to FDR. He also served as Speaker of the House for U.S house of representatives and served in the Texas House of Representatives.

Texas Dust Storms So while the great depression was in full swing up north the dust bowl of Texas was in full swing down yonder. As a result of the Dust Bowl evem States Outside the Dust Bowl were affected. It also Affected Immigration a lot of North Texas Farmers moved west to California only to be confronted with the harsh realities of the great depression. The Dust Bowl extended from Texas to North Dakota.

How did we combat the Dust Bowl? Well, Things got pretty bad. Some speculate that we ended up loosing 33% of our population at the time to migration to states such as California. Many farms were lost to the banks because economic development just wasent happening. We discovered new ways to combat the problem however by Planting New Trees and Vegetation to prevent erosion. The Dust bowl affected everything Even states outside the Dust Bowl were affected.

The Great Depression The Great Depression was especially damaging to the Agricultural Sector of Texas because of a Severe Drought this severe Drought also caused problems because it created what has become known as the Dust Bowl. Not only this but New Deal programs changed the lives of Texans during the great depression Many people found employment building roads and bridges

Supply and Demand The law of supply and demand is simple, when there is a lot of something it tends to loose value when it is rare & Useful it tends to gain value. Texas was suffering from a drought and so crops were not growing causing the price of what little food there was to sky rocket.

International Conflict By international conflict I am referring to world war 2. Ultimately world war 2 brought America out of the great depression because many people went back to work on war projects. Even Texas received New Military Facilities, Naval & Aircraft production, Ammunition plants and even petroleum plants. This ultimately brought Texas to the front line of the war effort and boosted the economy exponitially. Even Texas had benefitted from the Second World War Because It’s Natural Resources were needed to supply the War Effort. Texas was perfect for all of these camps and bases because of it’s Moderate Climate and Large expanses of Land.

Audie Murphy This Texas became a decorated movie star after serving in the second world war. Remember “cool guys run from explosions” that was this guy. He jumped on an enemy tank while it was on fire turned it’s weapons upon itself and ran off as it exploded. Whoa!!!!

Let’s talk more about Dust! Many farms were lost to banks during the Dust Bowl but Texans acted by planting new Tree’s and Vegetation to prevent erosion. We’ve already gone over how 1/3 or 33.333333333 percent of Texas farmers Migrated to California but the remaining Farmers had to do something, planting grass and tree’s solidified the soil and prevented future Dust Bowls. As a result of the Storms dust bowls even Affected states outside the Dust Bowl.

Let’s pause for a moment and talk about Cotton. No, I’m not talking about that famous Michael Jordan Ads, I am talking about the plant. You already know that Cotton was one of the largest crops that took place in Texas. During World War 2 Cotton production decreases substantially. You see, Fewer acres were planted for cotton.

Let’s talk Oil & Agriculture The Overproduction of Oil, Gas and Agriculture products impacted Texas economy during the great depression Because with Overproduction came with Price decline and economic growth slowed.
