C. Map Projections Map – drawing of the earth’s surface on a flat surface. Cartographers – mapmakers. Map Projections – ways of drawing the earth’s surface. a. Mercator Projection – shows true shapes of landmasses, but distorts size, especially in places far from the equator. b. Robinson Projection – shows more of the correct sizes and shapes of landmasses, but does not distort size as much as a Mercator Projection.
