Definition of First-Generation Students   Neither parent or guardian has a FOUR-YEAR DEGREE OR HIGHER from an institution in the U.S. HOWEVER if your son or daughter is the first to come to UT you are encouraged to stay! If you’d like to go to another session that is fine too

TIPS FOR YOUR STUDENT Learn to ask for help around the university Learn to say “no”/ time management School is a full-time commitment Learn to ask questions; don’t assume everyone already knows Schedule time to attend office hours – meet with teaching assistant or professor even when things are going well Build networks, get connected and involved Some students will be able to find all of the information on their own, others need help but both paths are okay Maintain physical & mental health while in school
