The Prayer of Intercession

The Prayer of Intercession Intercession is the act of going to God on behalf of another or others.

Why Should We Intercede? 1. God commands it.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Why Should We Intercede? 1. God commands it. 2. By doing so we invite God to act in the lives of others.

Matthew 9:37,38 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Why Should We Intercede? 1. God commands it. 2. By doing so we invite God to act in the lives of others. 3. By doing so we empower the saints.

2 Thessalonians 1:11,12 11 Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Why Should We Intercede? 1. God commands it. 2. By doing so we invite God to act in the lives of others. 3. By doing so we empower the saints. a. We empower them for unity.

John 17:20-21 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

John 17:22-23 22 “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”

Romans 15:5,6 5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Why Should We Intercede? 1. God commands it. 2. By doing so we invite God to act in the lives of others. 3. By doing so we empower the saints. We empower them for unity. We empower them for evangelism.

2 Thessalonians 3:1,2 1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, 2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.
