Presentation transcript:

Dear Parent and Student! I am delighted that your child is in my English I class this year. With encouragement, your child will participate in and enjoy many exciting and rewarding experiences this academic year. Since lifelong success depends in part on learning to make responsible choices, I have developed a classroom discipline plan that guides every student to make good decisions about his or her behavior. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate possible for his or her growth, and I know that together we will make a difference in this process. The “Classroom Plan” is outlined in the pages attached. To encourage students to follow the rules, I will support appropriate behavior with verbal recognition, positive notes and phone calls home. Be assured that my goal is to work with you to ensure the success of your child this year. Please read and discuss this classroom plan with your child, then sign and return. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about this plan or any other matter. Sincerely, Ms. J. “Leah” Johnson West Brook High School English IV Head Softball Coach 409-617-5500 409-679-2151 (cell) jjohns3@bmtisd.com Signature by parent and student represent that each of you have read and agree to the policies and procedures given. Ms. J’s Classroom Plan Grades: Late work/Make-up work: Turn in Policy: Major Grades 60% Daily Grades 40% Late work/Make-up work: Any assignment that is turned in after the due date receives a 80 as the highest grade they are able to earn for that assignment. I will assure that all students will be given enough time to complete all work received. (Usually a week) Make-up work will be what is highlighted on each individual progress report (if I can print them, if not, then I will call out missing assignments to students each week). Each student will have ONE week (Mon to Fri) to have that assignment corrected, per teacher instructions, and turned into the box. Turn in Policy: At the front of the classroom by the door is a black lock box. This box is where each student will turn in ALL work. Work is picked up at the end of the day. Any work not turned in by the end of the day is late unless stated otherwise by the teacher. Also, there will be the option of turning in work/assignments through Edmodo, which is a student-teacher website where materials can be found. This can be used as another form of communication. Absent: If a student is absent, work will be placed in a folder at the front of the room for them to grab their work (or electronically on edmodo.com). It is the student’s responsibility to check the folder once they have returned to school. On receiving the work, each student has 2 days to complete the assignment and turn in with no penalty. Any questions about missed work is to be asked after class or school. Students seem to have a problem with this area, so PLEASE make sure that they understand that THEY are responsible and class-time cannot be taken to deal with this matter so they need to speak with me before or after school. Tutorials: (completely optional unless teacher/parent requested) Due to being a coach, as well as a classroom teacher, I will only be able to have tutorials in the morning. I arrive at school around 6:15, which should give any student ample amount of time to get any help that they may need. If this is not something that cannot be done, then please notify me so that I can make other arrangements to help your student get the help they desire. FIRST SEMESTER ONLY: I will have tutorials after school Tuesdays and Thursdays for an hour. If additional time is needed, then a request needs to be made in advance so I can make arrangements. SECOND SEMESTER ONLY: Mornings only as I will be “in season” and coaching softball after school. Extra Credit: There is extra credit provided to every student. It varies and ALL students will be made aware of what they can do in order to improve their grade.
