We will resume our Music curriculum in the Summer Term. Blue Class – Spring Term Outcomes To create a narrative based on Greek myths. To create clay vases inspired by the Greeks. To perform a piece of persuasive writing to another class. HISTORY GEOGRAPHY Knowledge: To explore how the idea of democracy has changed over time. To understand how changes to democracy have affected decision making in British Parliament. To know why ancient Greece lost its power. Skills: To draw timelines that show key historical events in chronological order. To categorise historical evidence into primary and secondary sources. Knowledge: To name the major cities in ancient Greece. To explain how the location of Athens helped make the Greeks economically successful. To compare and contrast Athens and Sparta in terms of physical/human features and economy. Skills: To plan a journey to Greece, taking account of distance and time. To explain how a location fits into its wider geographical location with reference to human and economical features. Literacy Texts Greek Myths for young children. Stories include: Pandora’s Box, Orpheus and Eurydice, The Twelve Tasks of Hercules, Daedalus and Icarus. ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief’ By Rick Riodan. Science Units EARTH AND SPACE: To describe the movement of the Earth and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system. To describe the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth. Use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the Sun across the sky. ART This term our topic is: The Ancient Greeks DESIGN TECHNOLOGY Knowledge: To understand perspective in reference to Greek art and architecture. Skills: To sketch the Parthenon focussing on tone, gradation, shading and light sources. Knowledge: To generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through discussion, annotated sketches, cross-sectional and exploded diagrams, prototypes, pattern pieces. To apply their understanding of how to shape, stiffen and reinforce clay. Skills: To design and make a Greek vase using clay. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SMSC Knowledge: To know who Mohammad was and recall important events in his life. To understand why the Qur’an is important to Muslims. Skills: To compare and contrast practices that are important to a Muslim person with my own life. To analyse similarities and differences and say what values lie behind them. We will learn about the importance of tolerance, respect and empathy by exploring the lives of Hypatia and Socrates. PE Knowledge: To know which sports require good dynamic and counter balance. To know what my personal challenges are. To know how to adjust the body to help keep balance. Social Skills: To give and receive positive comments before giving any improvement feedback to our peers. To listen to and take on other’s opinions. Applying Physical Skills: To focus on keeping in balance controlling landings. To combine and control jumps with throws. Outdoor Learning Computing We will perform our writing in an amphitheatre style outside. We will do drama in the garden. We will do science outside to learn about the rotation of the planets. Knowledge: To understand the opportunities computer networks offer for collaboration. To understand computer networks including the internet. Skills: To collaboratively use a range of computer networks. PSHE Music We will resume our Music curriculum in the Summer Term. To explore and explain your opinion of democracy and how it affects you. To reflect on the different types of rights and responsibilities and how your actions affect yourself and others. Trips and Visits The Houses of Parliament – to help us learn about democracy. The Victoria and Albert Museum - to view Greek vases and statues. We will visit a local Mosque
