Spanish American War & America imperialism 1823 Monroe Doctrine Issued To Europe The Americas were off limits to further European colonization ! After the Civil War (1865) The U.S.A developed booming industries AND The it needed raw materials and new markets For ITSELF !!  SO NO MORE COLONIZING by European Countries ! Now the US will start to COLONIZE !

Spanish American War & America imperialism 1904 Roosevelt Corollary (added to Monroe Doctrine) Declared that the U.S.A was an international police power in the Western Hemisphere. And that Non Western Hemisphere Countries were to stay out of the Western Hemisphere! Great White Fleet – U.S. Navy toured the world to show the world that the U.S.A. was not playing around and that it would ENFORCE the Roosevelt Corollary! Roosevelt said it took too long for the Navy to travel around the tip of South America to get to the Pacific Ocean from the East Coast. A SHORTCUT WAS NEEDED!

Spanish American War & America imperialism 1903 – U.S. helped Panamanians rebel against Columbia - In exchange for the right to build a Canal Panama Canal opened in 1914 and greatly shortened the route from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The US intervening in Latin American affairs led to economic imperialism that established AMERICAN supremacy in the Western Hemisphere!
