Why it is important to choose your courses wisely?

Survey says….. So you can prepare for future jobs Affects what you take in university or college You will be stuck with them so enjoy the courses you have on your timetable

Learning Goals How to collect data to make good decisions about next year’s courses How to check if diploma requirements will be met How to select and submit Gr 10 courses using MyBlueprint

Choosing Your Courses - Research Check your marks from last year, current courses Talk to teachers who teach the course Talk to students who have taken the course Get information regarding workload and the type of projects assigned Visit the Course Fair Thursday, December 6th in the Small Gym Complete the “Who Am I” assessments in MyBlueprint Backwards plan (electronicinfo.ca, ontariocolleges.ca) Use Guidance Centre – viewbooks, lunchbox series

Pathways Academic courses lead to University (U), University/College (M) and College (C) level courses in Grades 11 and 12 Applied courses lead to University/College (M) and College (C) level courses in Grades 11 and 12 Students taking a program including both academic and applied courses are still eligible to attend university

Math pathways:

Accessing MyBlueprint Plan courses ANYTIME in MyBlueprint SUBMIT online from Thursday, December 6th to Wednesday, January 16th, at 3:30 p.m. Log into MyBlueprint.ca/peel (use BYOD access for direct access by clicking on “Resources” then MyBlueprint)

Select “Activities”, “Plan Courses”, (and other Activities for IPP)

Official High School Plan The purple dot indicates the “official plan” which will be submitted. To make alternate plans click ”View Plans” or Add New Plan.

Error Messages If you clicked ‘Submit’ and do not have a full course load, then you will get the error message shown. Click ‘Cancel’ and return to course selection. 2. If you ignore Step 1, you will receive the error messages resulting in the ‘Insufficient Credits’ error on the Verification Form / Sign-Off Sheet. 1 2

Selecting Courses Choose carefully! Complete by deadline! Courses you select now will determine which courses will be offered next year Do not plan to change courses later as they may no longer be available Complete by deadline! Online entry date may impact the courses you get Course Selection is begins on February 10th and closes on February 20th, use this time period to select, review, and make any changes to your courses for next year. Please note, when course selection closes there will be a limited opportunity to make changes.

Course Changes Changes are LIMITED after the course selection window closes Changes are allowed based on course availability

Summer School Students may take a course at summer school If you are SURE you will take a course at summer school, DO NOT select that course for next year Choose stand alone courses like Careers and Civics (must choose both), or History; not Math, English or Science that are continuation courses If you decide to attend summer school and have already selected the course you plan to take at summer school, speak to your Guidance Counsellor
