EXPRESSIONS WITH “LIKE” GRAMMAR TIME EXPRESSIONS WITH “LIKE” By Lilian Marchesoni

Like as a verb can be used before a gerund or an infinitive Like as a verb can be used before a gerund or an infinitive. It means “enjoy”. Fred likes going (to go) scuba diving.

Like can be used with would to talk about wants and desires. Lisa would like to see an active volcano someday.

Jeff looks like his sister. As a preposition, like means “similar to”. It can be followed by a noun or pronoun. Jeff looks like his sister.

The phrase something like means “about”. It’s something like two meters long.
