MSWG Report – SPS OP Crew Week 28 MSWG Report – SPS OP Crew 2/17/2019

Status of beams LHC beams: Fixed target beams: Ions: HiRadMat: Awake: Successful deployment of 100 ns and 50 ns beams in the LHC – operational LHC1 used for BCMS physics beam – operational (sometimes needs injection steering in TI2) LHCINDIV with special INDIVs used for BSRT calibration – operational Fixed target beams: SFTPRO2 – operational (20/37/1120/20; sometimes at slightly lower DC for ZS) Problems with intensity fluctuations in T2 – under observation Ions: Some tests on the ion cycle early this week HiRadMat: Prepared after dedicated MD; 3 injections with FT okay; 4 injections with ZS @ -30kV okay – operational (dedicated run foreseen Wednesday from 8:00 – 22:00) Awake: Took beam regularly during week – operational 2/17/2019

MDs – week 27 4 dedicated MDs in parallel! 2/17/2019

MDs SFTPRO1: Coast test: High intensity MD: Q’’: Chroma measured with and without extraction sextupoles (for simulations and to compute momentum spread). Chroma appears much more positive than measured 2 years ago for same knob value. Coast test: Coast cycle entered into the supercycle Coast sequence could finally not be launched due to block of access to the CBCM main folder. High intensity MD: Longitudinal measurements limited to 3 batches at 1.3e11 ppb Transverse instability measurements taken wit multi- acquisition of headtail monitor Q’’: Checks on horizontal instability and on the effects of stabilization using Q’’ ongoing during night 2/17/2019

MDs Wideband feedback: Longer term plan to measure TMCI mitigation at higher intensities. 2/17/2019

MDs Wideband feedback: Longer term plan to measure TMCI mitigation at higher intensities. Slotline kicker hooked up to power amplifiers. Slotline kicker times up. Relative phases of stripline and slotline needed to be corrected (access this morning) 2/17/2019

Incoming LHC MDs in 2 weeks – special beams: HiRadMat: MD3284: Pb81+ (in principle already taken up to the SPS) MD3300: BCMS with LHC bunch intensity of 0.3E11 and 0.8E11 (in principle already prepared for LHC MD1 except for the lowest intensity) MD2901: LHCINDIV with 0.8E11 and 1.8E11 MD3583: 8b4e – taken in the past but saw some blow-up in the vertical plane along the ramp ( 1.6um) HiRadMat: Starting on Monday – bunches up to 216 with FT cycle 288 bunch beams foreseen for Wednesday after the dedicated MD from 18:00 – 22:00 – no FT beams 2/17/2019
